What is Trezor?
Trezor is the world's first hardware wallet, designed to store your private keys offline. By isolating your sensitive data from the internet, Trezor creates an impenetrable barrier against hackers, malware, and phishing attacks. Whether you are a seasoned trader or a crypto novice, visiting Trezor.io/Start is your first step toward true financial sovereignty.
Why Choose Trezor?
Unmatched Security
Your private keys never leave the device. All transactions are signed offline, ensuring your assets remain safe even if your computer is compromised.
Universal Access
With Trezor Suite, manage your portfolio from desktop or web. Buy, sell, and exchange crypto directly within the secure environment.
Easy Recovery
Lost your device? No problem. Your 12 to 24-word recovery seed allows you to restore your entire wallet on a new device in minutes.
Open Source
Transparency is key to trust. Trezor's hardware and software are fully open-source, audited by security researchers worldwide.
Getting Started with Trezor.io/Start
Follow this comprehensive walkthrough to initialize your device safely. Do not skip any steps regarding the recovery seed backup.
Unboxing and Inspection
Before you even plug in your device, inspect the packaging. Trezor devices come with a tamper-evident holographic seal over the USB port (Trezor Model One) or the box opening (Trezor Model T). If this seal is broken or looks manipulated, do not use the device and contact support immediately.
Navigate to Trezor.io/Start
Open your preferred web browser and go to trezor.io/start. This is the official onboarding portal. It will prompt you to download Trezor Suite, the desktop application designed to interface with your hardware wallet securely.
Install Trezor Suite
Download the version appropriate for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Once installed, open the application and connect your Trezor device using the provided USB cable. The Suite will detect your device automatically.
Firmware Installation
Your new device ships without firmware installed to ensure you always have the latest, most secure version. Click "Install Firmware" in Trezor Suite. Once complete, your device will reboot.
Create a New Wallet
Select "Create new wallet". You will then be prompted to create a backup. This is the most critical step. Your device will generate a unique 12 to 24-word recovery seed. Write these words down on the provided recovery cards in the exact order shown.
WARNING: Never store your recovery seed digitally (photo, cloud, email, text file). If someone accesses your seed, they can steal your funds. Physical paper or metal backups are the only secure methods.
Set a PIN Code
Protect your physical device from unauthorized access by setting a strong PIN. This PIN will be required every time you connect your Trezor to a computer.

Security Best Practices
- Always verify the URL is exactly trezor.io before downloading software.
- Never enter your recovery seed on a computer keyboard or phone. Only enter it on the Trezor device itself.
- Keep your recovery seed card in a fireproof, waterproof location.
- Use a passphrase for an extra layer of security (hidden wallet).
